Although I have video and audio clip categories for Bollywood music, Fusion Music, Asian Urban Music, Family, Everything Filipino, and Words & Music That Heal — whether it’s a song, a dance, an interview, or a beautiful PowerPoint presentation, this section is for whatever entertains me, energizes me, inspires me or uplifts me. I really use my blog as a record of my thinking and growth process.
I hope my collection moves you, too!

EARTH, WIND, & FIRE SINGS “FANTASY”
(video courtesy of eyuseco, YouTube.com)
My late brother, Reuben, and I used to rock to this song for hours. We never got tired of Earth, Wind, & Fire… Nowadays, I listen to their songs whenever I miss his presence. Reuben passed away in June 1990(suddenly! this remains a sticky issue with my family regarding Cebu City’s MCWD and the Hepatitis A epidemic that hit our Lahug neighborhood — and me included BUT Cebu’s Clean Water Movement started due to Reuben’s death; we are indebted to his friends who having started the movement).

CHARLOTTE CHURCH AND BILLY GILMAN SING “DREAM A DREAM”
(video courtesy of OracleofHope, YouTube.com)
When my mother-in-law, the late Sandra Dietz, used to orchestrate romantic, candlelight dinners for the family whenever we visited their fabulous home in Austin, Texas, Joel, my father-in-law, would turn up the sensurround sound of the stereo system — and we would enjoy the music of Andrea Bocelli, Charlotte Church, Josh Groban and other classically-trained musicians.
I remember Mom telling us that it was a pity how people were working (then 13-year old) Charlotte Church to death because it meant abusing her voice. She said, “Watch Charlotte as she grows older. If she doesn’t properly rest her voice and get more appropriate training, that pure, angelic quality of her voice will disappear.”
Prophetic mother, I thought.
At least, in this video, we catch Charlotte during that delightful, “pure” state.

IZ SINGS “SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW AND WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD MEDLEY”
(video courtesy of Vidbrats, YouTube.com)
Too bad that this great Hawaiian artist is dead… but his memory lives on. When this song served as the background music for the deathbed scene of Dr. Greene in an “ER” TV episode, I started crying — and grieving all over again for the loved ones that I had lost.
Hearing Iz’s music for the first time made me realize that modern Hawaiian music has truly grown up ever since Don Ho’s “Tiny Bubbles” charmed its way to our hearts.

DONNA SUMMER SINGS “LAST DANCE” FROM THE MOVIE, “THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!” AT THE 1979 ACADEMY AWARDS
(video courtesy of SambaSoul, YouTube.com)
This song is dedicated to Dino Veloso (formerly known as Tino Veloso) and Grace Arceo. The three of us danced the disco swing version (one man twirling the two girls) at the basketball court in front of St. Therese Church Parish in October 1978 (or was it 1979?) at our Parish fiesta in Lahug, Cebu City. Grace is somewhere in Canada while Dino — oh well, Dino — he’s a very well-known creative broadcasting and event producer.

EVANESCENCE SINGS “LITHIUM”
(video courtesy of evanescencevideo, YouTube.com)
Arup Dutt, an awesome friend of mine from TimesOfMoney.com (based in Mumbai, India), introduced me to Evanescence’s music. Here, she sings about depression. Wow, the music is strikingly melancholic. Somehow, the song is appropriate for those rare days when I want to float into groundlessness with my fears. Thank you, Arup!
