Events & Projects I’m Working On
The most current projects and events I’m working on will be the headliners of this page. This also serves as documentation of some community projects I’m involved in organizing and developing into the implementation phase. Don’t be fazed by the number of projects I’m involved in. It’s a normal part of my life, being able to “broker” diverse products and services to the people I care about. And yes, it’s true! I’m quite focused on helping out our Asian Pacific American populations — Filipino, Indonesian, and South Asian communities in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley.
As of March 11, 2008:
1. Mark your calendars! One of my STC Cebu classmates, Marissa Fernan, will have her San Francisco Coffee Table Book Launching here on May 13, 2008 at Micaela Gallery. Then, in New York on May 16. The book, wherein part of the proceeds benefits the Arts Council of Cebu’s Scholarship Program, is titled: Cebu, Pride of Place.
2. Preparing for the 8th NaFFAA Empowerment Conference on Sept. 26 to 28, 2008 at the Westin Hotel in Seattle, Washington state.
At this time, I am already scouting for interested corporate sponsors.
To read more about our organization, please go to www.naffaa.org.
3. Looking for festival sponsors and booth vendors for the 2008 San Jose Punjabi Mela, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 22, 2008.
4. Looking for sponsors and advertisers for the 12th Anniversary of the Filipinas Magazine Achievement Awards, scheduled for October 2, 2008 at the South San Francisco Conference Center.
5. Mark your calendars for the 2009 University of the Philippines in America (UPAAA) Convention: Sept. 4 to Sept. 6, 2009 at the Washington Plaza Hotel, Washington DC. All UP alumni in the US (and beyond) are encouraged to attend this once-every-two-years gathering. Details follow after the Spring and Fall 2008 board meetings. For more information about corporate sponsorships, contact Dr. Francis S. Sy, UPAA President, at SYF@mail.nih.gov.
6. Are you interested in reaching out to the Indonesian American marketplace? Advertisers, check out Kabari, an in-language monthly, glossy magazine about Indonesia and Indonesian Americans! I am impressed by the quality and graphic design elements of this lifestyle publication. You won’t see syndicated articles for the most part! Advertisers will benefit from the benefits of investing in Kabari News’ hard copy and internet editions. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll connect you with the decision makers.
7. I’m currently finalizing my certification as a debt management specialist. I’m also looking for small businesses who want to fast-track their incorporation by considering “seasoned” corporations. Aside from the FICO workshops we offer, here are some products and services you might be interested in:
- Credit Enhancement
- Credit Sweep
- Trade Line Insertion
- Debt Settlement
- Late Payment Removal
- California Corporation Credit Package
- Corporation Premier Credit Build
- Corporations Workshop
If you are interested in hosting a workshop, please contact me.
8. Are you planning to coordinate your next reunion, meeting, workshop, retreat, or conference in the Philippines? I’m your “go-to” girl! I wasn’t kidding when I said that my blog’s booking engine probably gives you cheap, cheaper, cheapest internet airfares to the Philippines. Depending on your needs, I can hook you up with the right event management specialists in the Philippines.
You can also use my RadiantView.com’s booking engine to comparison-shop airline tickets for the Philippines and Beyond Asia.
Go to Book Your Travel Online for guidance!
9. I’m also looking for advertisers for a made-for-DVD Punjabi Comedy Film.
And the rest is now history!

San Jose Punjabi Mela: A Backgrounder
This is the 4th year that this celebration has been organized as “a cultural event with social significance” — and the second year that the mela (festival) has been branded as the San Jose Punjabi Mela. See www.SanJoseMela.com.
The beginnings of this year’s mela are rooted in a temple-sponsored festival that was conceived as an annual event 21 years ago. The 1985 mela celebrated its past two years’ work of organizing a growing Indo-American community in San Jose. Bob Gill, the “pioneering spirit” behind this project, encouraged more volunteers to take ownership of the festival’s operations. In 2003, the Indo-American Senior Center of San Jose, a non-profit organization, organized its own San Jose Mela as a cultural activity benefiting the growing senior community that sought to celebrate its cultural roots in the United States. By this time frame, the founder-organizers had fully established its credibility and reputation, acquiring more participants and supporters, currently averaging 10,000 in attendance.
In 2006, a committee (a multi-ethnic coalition) that supports the Indo-American Sikh Community was created to take the festival to the next level: Celebrating Diverse Cultures.
Updates will also be posted at www.myspace.com/SanJosePunjabiMela
On a personal note: I started volunteering for this committee in 2006. It was in 2003 that I first met and volunteered with the members of this multi-ethnic coalition in San Jose.
Please note that the mela was set for May 6, 2007 BUT was rescheduled to June 24, 2007 due to popular demand.
